Caswell Beach
Fort Caswell
Originally contructed in the 1820s and 1830s and later used during the Civil War in defense of Confederate positions along the NC coast, Fort Caswell has also served as a training ground during World War I, a resort spa in the 1930s, and as a communications base during World War II.  The Baptist State Convention of North Carolina purchased the fort in 1949 and the NC Baptist Assembly have since used the site for retreats, conferences, and meetings.  Since Fort Caswell is now privately owned, there is extremely limited public access.  Any entrance to the grounds must be approved at the guard gate.
